Deborah Lobo, CGN Evaluator
Hi, I’m Deborah, and animals—especially dogs—have been my lifelong passion. I suppose it’s in my blood—my grandfather and great-grandfather showed Dobermans, and my great-grandfather was even honored by the Queen of England for his contributions.
I was born in Qatar in the Arabian Gulf and spent my early years moving between countries before my family settled in Canada. These experiences instilled in me a love for adventure and adaptability. Now, I split my time between Canada and Albany, NY, immersing myself in a life full of learning, teaching, and, of course, dogs.
For over twenty years, I’ve been deeply involved in the dog world. My journey began in show conformation alongside my sister, where we guided dogs to Canadian, US, UKC, and International Championships—including an unforgettable Best in Show! Beyond the show ring, I’ve explored nearly every canine activity imaginable: agility, tracking, scent work, straight and oval racing, lure coursing, Frisbee—you name it, I’ve probably done it.
My favorite breeds include Basenjis, Labrador Retrievers, and Australian Shepherds, though I adore working with all breeds. In 2018, after moving to the U.S., I decided to return to school while navigating immigration laws. That’s when I discovered SUNY Cobleskill’s Bachelor of Technology program in Canine Training and Management. Graduating in 2023 as valedictorian and summa cum laude was a dream come true!
My passion for learning didn’t stop there. I’m currently pursuing an M.Sc. in Anthrozoology, delving into the fascinating relationships and communication between humans and non-human animals. At the same time, I work part-time as a veterinary assistant at an animal clinic, where I assist with patient care, assess FAS scores, and prepare medications.
In my spare time, I’m fully immersed in dog-related activities. Whether it’s sports, training, analyzing behavioral issues, or helping owners improve their relationships with their pets, I find immense joy in building connections between people and their animals.
To me, working with dogs is more than a career—it’s a calling. Animals offer us unconditional love, and I’m driven by a desire to strengthen the bond between humans and their companions. My mission is simple yet profound: to foster understanding and harmony, making life better for both two-legged and four-legged friends alike.
