I have always believed that dogs are a gift from God. When we are in tune with our canines, we become happier, less anxious humans. It has long been my passion to help others to achieve this special bond that I am enjoying with our two current rescues, Jaxon—a 4-year-old multi-breed mix and Kaia, a young Rottie-Pittie mix.
My passion for animals began as a child. Growing up in a family of 7 children, it was hard to convince my parents that we needed a dog to round out our family, but I was relentless, and when mom finally gave in it was with one condition: it had to be a collie, and it had to be as well-behaved as the TV dog Lassie.
As luck would have it, my Spanish teacher was also a collie breeder and she helped us purchase a collie whom we named Sir Lancelot (Lance, for short). While I never did become fluent in Spanish, dog training seemed to come naturally to me, and Lance grew up to be an amazing companion and friend—and yes, every bit as great as Lassie. Since then, I have always had dogs in my life.
My husband, Mac and I raised our 3 children with multiple dogs, including a variety of purebred and rescue dogs. Our pack also included ferrets, cats, gerbils and hampsters, a skunk, and a variety of reptiles. Our kids are now grown and enjoying the good life with their own dogs, cats, and kids.
When I retired from a career in Pastoral ministry, I knew I wanted to find a path into the dog training world, and the opportunity came when I enrolled my reactive dog, Jaxon, in the Cold Creek Challenging Dog program. Jaxon was different from the other dogs in my life; he needed extra help to navigate the scary world of humans, dogs, lawn ornaments and such. Through the unique behavioral training that Cold Creek offers—which is really about training us humans to understand our dogs—Jaxon became the calm, balanced, trusting boy I knew he could be.
While completing this amazing program I studied with the Animal Behavior College and mentored under Rose Deluca, owner of Cold Creek. I became an ABC-certified trainer and joined the Cold Creek team. It brings me great joy to help others transform their anxious, misbehaving canines into faithful friends who fit fluently into our human lives.
Your dog can be the well-behaved pup you’ve always wanted. With our unique blend of obedience and behavioral training, you can help your dog overcome annoying behaviors like jumping, barking, charging out the door, and ignoring you when you call. Your dog can learn to be calmer, more trusting, more focused on you and the good life you offer. Let me help you get there through private lessons, in your home or out and about, tailored to your dog-training goals.
